Almost every cuisine of of the highest quality is available in Sydney from local seafood to international cusines. Some of Sydney's best eating can be enjoyed in the city precincts Chinatown, The Rocks and Circular Quay, Darlinghurst and King's Cross. For city views, try a revolving restaurant.

The Blue Mountains and the northern Hunter Valley are a must! For winter sports. see the Snowy Mountains

If you arrive in Sydney, I suggest a stopover in Canberra on your way to Melbourne. See Canberrra Highlights

If your preference is for a golf club bungalow while in Canberra, the Yowani Golf & CC offers such on-course accomm.

I also include the Murray River region to break the trip between Melbourne and Sydney. You can fly to Albury from Sydney with Rex Express. 

Heading further north? Then head for the Gold Coast in southeast Queensland. the Sunshine Coast north from Brisbane and maybe you would enjoy a break from the airports by taking the 180 kmh Tilt Train to Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef.

I definitely would travel north in the Australian winter where you would be subject to warm tropical weather, mild the mornings and days in the mid 70's.
