Kelly's Comments

There are about 6 famous Melbourne sand-belt courses that rival the finest links anywhere on this earth.

Metropolitan, Victoria, Yarra Yarra,  Kingston Heath, Royal Melbourne, and last but not least, Huntingdale.

I would play all Melbourne's sand belt courses time permitting..

A trip to the Dandenongs and Upper Ferntree Gully is a must; don't miss the scenic steam train ride on Puffin Billy!

There are 3 other popular tours, Phillip Island to see the Fairy Penguin parade, The Gold Rush Trail to Ballarat and the Great Ocean Road.west to Torquay.

Then there is the Mornington Peninsula, about 1.5 hrs away by car. You will find Australia's most popular links courses especially the Australian Open Championship links, Moonah. Further west, after a Port Phillip Bay ferry crossing, you can play a classic links course Barwon Heads and after a drive along the Great Ocean Road, you will find Anglesea and Torquay where kangaroos roam the fairways.

The flight across the Bass Strait to Tasmania takes about 2 hours. You can stay at the Hobart & Launceston Casinos or stay at a Barnbougle Dunes Golf Cottage about an hour's drive from Launceston.

A must play is the extraordinary Barnbougle Dunes, said to be unlike anything ever seen in Australia. You play between, over, and across towering dunes, where breathtaking views and thrilling golf provides a dramatic setting that is equal to the best links courses in the world.

If you are a wine buff, visit the boutique Mornington Peninsula and Rutherglen wineries, as well as the Gold Award Coonawarra dry reds at Penola on the South Australian border.

Penola is on the way to Adelaide and the famous Barossa Valley where a host of Australian wineries are to be found.

Melbourne is lovely city. One of my most favourite cities in the entire world.
