I have personally performed this itinerary. I can tell you that you will find it it to be most interesting and you will play world rated courses and links courses along the way.

Straddling the Derwent River with Mount Wellington as a backdrop, Hobart has one of the most spectacular settings of any city in the world.

The Derwent flows out to the Pacific and its deepwater port has made Hobart a vibrant maritime city.

Battery Point was the original English fishing village and today has many stone cottages dating back to the early 1800s. The narrow, cobble stoned streets with small footpaths and close shops reminds travelers of Oliver Twist and early London.

Salamanca Place, adjacent to the Constitution Dock in the city center, features beautifully preserved sandstone warehouses from the cities first settlement, speciality shops, arts and crafts, cafes and restaurants.

The Salamanca Markets are held every Saturday morning and are renowned for their local craft and fresh produce.

16 miles north of Hobart is the historic village of Richmond where you can see old stone bridges built by Australia’s most desperate convicts who were sent to Tasmania from the mainland. See old stone buildings, galleries museums and craft shops.

Port Arthur, 62 miles south east of Hobart, is the site of the colony’s main penal settlement between 1830 and 1877. Many buildings have been preserved to show the life of the era. Tour the maximum penal jail and there is an after dark tour by lamplight.

Lawnceston is often the starting point for trips to many interesting places as it is the closest city to where the Spirit of Tasmania, a ocean going passenger/vehicular ferry docks at Devonport, located on the central north coast of Tasmania.

I exercised my option to load my car on the Ocean Ferry that sails from Melbourne to Burnie overnight. Two new vehicular/passenger ferries operate.
