The Gold Coast is about 1 hour southeast from Brisbane by road.

Kangaroo Kelly remembers visiting the Gold Coast back in the 70's. Then it was a pleasure to receive a parking ticket from a bikini clad meter maid. Alas, those days are gone. Now the Gold Coast sports an international casino, magnificent houses alongside man made canals and modern hotels that reach for the sky all along Surfers Paradise and other people accessible beachfronts.

If you wish to continue on to the Great Barrier Reef, you can fly from Coolangatta or Brisbane or travel north along the coast by the new, sensational Tilt Train that travels up to 180 kms per hour all the way to Cairns. the Tilt Train os inexpensive and a wonderful way to see the northern coastal regions.

A really pleasing feature about your Tilt Train ticket is that it allows you to make stopovers along the way. See the Sunshine Coast about an hour north from Brisbane; see The Whitsunday Islands and much more on your journey north via the excitingly fast Tilt Train.

If you are travelling south, you can connect with a Sydney or Melbourne flight from the Coolangatta International Airport. Coolangatta is part of the Gold Coast right on the Qld & New South Wales border.
